Jobs In Japan

There are plenty of opportunities to work in Japan. The most common employment for English speakers is teaching English. If you are not interested in teaching there are other opportunities to put some yen to your bank account.

Teaching in Japan

Teaching English in Japan is a major industry and employs over 65000 foreigners. Teaching is not for everyone but it can be a rewarding job with opportunities to make good money. However it’s not a get rich quick solution and is nowhere near as lucrative as it was 10 or 15 years ago.

Most big teaching companies won’t employ people on working holiday visas. However some smaller schools may happily take you on if you have teaching qualifications or experience.

Although it is possible to work as an unqualified freelance teacher, you will be able find work much more easily with some kind of teaching qualification. Even a basic TEFL certificate may help you get a better job with higher pay.

I to I offer some great TEFL teacher training courses. I’ve also found that they’re giving away free eBooks. They’ve got a really interesting website about teaching English as a foreign language. Definitely worth a look at the teacher training courses they offer, if not just get the free book! The links below will take you to the free book page.

Resort Jobs in Japan

Many working holiday visa holders bypass the cities and head straight to the world class ski slopes for the winter, before relocating to a beach resort in the summer. Wages for resort jobs are relatively low at about 600-700yen per hour but with most programs your food and accommodation are subsidised.

A huge bonus of resort job work is you are usually allowed to use the resorts facilities for free on your days off. This could be dream job if you’re into skiing or snowboarding or a great opportunity to try something new.

Ski resort positions in Hokkaido and Nagano include, ski instructor, housekeeping, lift operator, restaurant staff, gift shop worker and many more.

Typical summer resort jobs are based in beach resorts of Kyushu or on the tropical island of Okinawa in the far south of Japan. You may be employed as a pool/beach attendant, restaurant/coffee shop staff, beach equipment rental, bell hop, hotel front desk as well as many other positions. Check out the popular boobooski website for more details.
